Code of Conduct
Last Updated: April 24, 2026
CharchaCafe is a space for live, small-group conversations. Whether you're hosting a community charcha or an expert-led session, every participant deserves to feel safe, heard, and respected. This Code of Conduct sets out what we expect from everyone who uses the platform.
1. Be Respectful
- Treat every host and participant with courtesy. Disagreement is welcome; personal attacks, condescension, and bad-faith arguments are not.
- Assume good intent. If a comment lands wrong, ask a clarifying question before escalating.
- Respect confidentiality. Personal stories or views shared in a charcha should not be broadcast externally (screenshots, social media, recordings) without the speaker's consent.
2. Be an Active Participant
- Show up on time and stay for the full session — people cleared their calendar for it.
- Contribute thoughtfully. Questions, perspectives, and lived experience all count. Silence is fine; disengagement isn't.
- Avoid dominating airtime. Make space for quieter voices and let the host facilitate.
3. Host Responsibilities
- Attend every session you schedule. No-shows trigger automatic refunds to paid participants and may lead to account suspension.
- Come prepared. Bring a topic, 2–3 starter questions, or structured material — whatever matches your format.
- Moderate the room. Steer conversations back on track, draw out quieter members, and remove disruptive participants when necessary.
- Represent yourself honestly. Don't misrepresent your expertise, credentials, or what participants will get out of the session.
- Respect the escrow flow. Don't ask participants to pay outside the platform or otherwise bypass CharchaCafe's payment system.
4. Participant Responsibilities
- Join sessions you've registered for. Repeated no-shows may affect your ability to register for future sessions.
- Follow the host's facilitation — stay on topic, respect time limits, and don't hijack the conversation.
- Respect paid content. Do not record, share, or redistribute materials from paid sessions without the host's explicit consent.
- Give constructive feedback. If a session didn't work for you, use the feedback form rather than public call-outs.
5. Prohibited Behavior
The following are not tolerated on the platform and will be acted on swiftly:
- Harassment, hate speech, or discrimination based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
- Sharing personally identifying information of others (doxxing) without their explicit consent.
- Unsolicited marketing, recruitment pitches, or spam inside charchas or via platform messages.
- Promoting illegal activities, fraud, or services that violate local law.
- Impersonating other users, experts, or CharchaCafe staff.
- Circumventing platform fees, payment flows, or account-level safeguards.
- Attempting to access data, systems, or accounts you're not authorized to access.
6. Reporting Violations
If you experience or witness behavior that violates this Code, please report it immediately:
- Email support@charchacafe.com with as much detail as you can share (charcha ID, participant names, screenshots if relevant).
- Urgent safety concerns during a live session: leave the session, then report afterwards.
- Reports are reviewed within 48 hours. Confidentiality is preserved to the extent possible during investigation.
7. Consequences
Based on severity and context, violations can result in:
- A private warning and guidance on expected behavior.
- Temporary suspension of hosting or participation privileges.
- Removal of specific charchas or messages.
- Permanent account termination.
- Referral to law enforcement in cases involving threats, harassment, or illegal activity.
We reserve the right to take any of these actions at our discretion to maintain a safe and constructive community.
8. Changes to This Code
We may update this Code of Conduct as the community grows. Material changes will be announced via email and on the platform. Continued use of CharchaCafe after an update means you accept the updated Code.
